Purchased this to spatchcock a turkey for thanksgiving. They did the job almost too well. Last time I tried to spatchcock a turkey I used a knife and it was a huge pain, but with these I got the spine right out. I've seen reviews saying they didn't work well to cut paper or plastic but that's the point! They're not kitchen shears- get these if you're looking for something heavy duty with a bone notch for getting the bones out of your birds. I've also used them for chicken thighs and they were great. My only dislike is that they don't come apart easily to clean, you have to unscrew them.
I am familiar with Old Timer as a brand, having a couple of their pocket knives. I was unfamiliar with their shears though, unaware they they made anything other than knives, and I selected these thinking they'd be similar to kitchen shears. They work very well and seem to be well made. These have a solid feel to them and I like the grip. Even when wet they're easy to maintain control over, so working with them in either the kitchen or the field is easier. The blades are sharp and they do a good job of cutting through tough tissue and small bones. They make quick work of chicken bones and skin when trimming in the kitchen which saves effort.I like that the blades are curved which is different than most kitchen shears with which I have worked. This makes them a bit easier with which to work when cutting, keeping your hands clear of what you're cutting which has the dual benefits of making it easier to see what you're doing and having more room to work. When working in the field, this is more sanitary too. These come with a nice sheath which protects the shears as well as things around the shears. These are priced nicely, too.I really like these shears and I expect to see years of good service from them with proper care. They're designed well, they have some safety features built in, and the cost is very reasonable.
These shears are the perfect size, easy to hold/handle, and are built for tough jobs. The first half to 3/4 of the blade is serrated for those tough jobs of cutting through bone and cartilage. It excels wonderfully for this type of work and then some. The shears are not heavy, and I love that they have a safety lock and sheath. The back part of the blade (aka notch) is flat like standard scissors and works 'okay' for cutting rough/thick items, but not great for flat or thinner items. Part of the reason is the notch doesn't have a ton of blade to work with, so I think that limits the versatility some (outside of snapping a bone). It still gets the job done though and I would definitely recommend it.
I actually use these for handyman projects around the house and not for shredding chicken bones or other animals but nontheless I love these scissors. These things are BUFF and they just destroy without impunity.I find myself using them on cardboard boxes with staples, various types of tubing used in gardening, really intense packaging, thin metal items, etc. They are very comfortable and sturdy. They come with a safety sheath and a safety spring which is neccesary because these are not for kids. After using these for a few week of various items, I could tell they are really made with care and are very high quality. I'm interested in other products this company offers as I see they have a lifetime warranty on their items.
These are the best kitchen shears and cut through bone with no problem period I definitely would recommend this over many of the other brands on Amazon. It also cleans very well in the dishwasher, and I have not had any problems with rusting.
My husband loves these! The large rubber grips work well for a solid grip (even for a lefty) . He used these to cut up a large pack of wings today. The cutting /serrated edge is the first 2 inches for cutting meat, skin and fat, the notched area is for cutting bone/gristle, etc. Trying to use these like traditional scissors will not work well and isn't how they are designed, they are more like snips.. If you choose to use them to cut paper/plastic/cardboard then remember the front edges are sharp and will work but more like cutting in snips than traditional long scissor like motions. This company has been around awhile and my in laws had some of their knives. I plan on these being a go to tool in our kitchen.
It’s so dull and not very flexible.it’s not manufactured in America.
This is a great set of game sheers, though best used for larger game. The grip is nice and grippy, though maybe a bit bulky which could make accuracy difficult if needed The blades are stainless steel and feel solid. I would recommend these sheers for larger game birds or other large game animals, but probably wouldn't use them for quail or smaller game.
Old Timer Trail Boss Series Fixed and Folding KnivesThis is a good brand, and these custom molded shears are great for Hunting, Skinning, Camping or Survival. The blade material is stainless steel and alloy steel. The blades feature a bone breaking notch and a serrated edge for cleaning or breaking down anything from wildlife to poultry. The sheaths also come with a custom molded case that has a bottle opener. The rubber TPE handles make sure there are no slips. There is also a finger guard.DIMENSIONS: 9.75” overall length, with a 4.8” blade length and weighs 6.8 ounces.
While I've not yet had a chance to actually use these scissors, I can say they are well-built and I look forward to using them in the field. The quality and stability of the steel seems very high and the handle is incredibly sturdy. They are sharp enough to cleanly cut through paper and other materials with no tearing. The sheath is also very nice and the scissors snap snugly in place.
