Nice knife for the money.
I love old timer knives even though they are made in china I still love them. This is a good quality knife at a great price.
I thought I had lost my old "scout knife". This was the closest I could get as a replacement -- but the handle was not the same as the old tacky black plastic. I found the old one, and both are nearly identical in function and performance.
As a collector I know you can't go wrong with a Schrade Old Timer.
Great quality
The knife was very poor quality. Not anything like the old Boy Scout knives we used to have. The fit of all the blades, springs, and handle were really rough. Very poorly polished, with a lot of knicks and grinding marks, and the knife was still covered with dirty oil.The "bone" handles looked they found it on the road. Seriously, didn't even fit the knife.Looks like it came from a sweatshop.I gave it away. Not worth returning.I am disappointed. Was not anything like the old Boy Scout knives we used to have.
It is a well built knife. It made a great gift for my cub scout grandson.
Definitely a Chinese made knife, and not "good China". I got this to pad an order for free shipping, and possible gift for a grandkid. It's OK, and only that. And so far I have not got the screwdriver blade to open with the nail nick. Perhaps it will free up with time.
I purchased this knife to replace one that was lost. Sure, it might be worth the money spent, but as I stated in the headline, cheap things are not good. I should have spent more money and would probably have purchased something worth the money. There are two things wrong with this product - it is cheaply made and the materials used are cheap. When I received the knife, the part that fell off in my pocket was already loose. The fact that it left the factory in that condition means there is no quality control at the Chinese factory. Additionally, the soft metal used for the blade means that after every time I use the knife it needs to be sharpened. As long as you know that this knife is worth far less than you paid for it, you won’t be disappointed. You get what you pay for.
Purchased the Schrade 23Ot Old Timer Traditional Scout Pocket Knife for my 9 year old son to earn his Whittling Chip in Cub Scouts. Seemed like a good starter knife and a common design.Unfortunately, the pin for the lanyard ring fell out within 15 minutes of the knife's first use, carving soap. I see a couple reviews about this same thing happening to others. The rest of the knife does seem well constructed and I feel the lanyard ring is superfluous for a pocketknife anyway. Schrade does provide a lifetime warranty, so time will tell, just don't attach this to your keyring. For Cub Scouts, however, it does feel heavy and the blades are difficult to open/close for my son. In struggling to close the knife, he would naturally try to adopt a stronger grip, but one which would place his fingers in the path of the closing knife. I would not recommend this for a Cub Scout's first knife for this reason.
