stays sharp, but the emblem fell out pretty soon. not a big deal for a work knife, but would be a real dissopointment for a show piece.
Gave this to my husband as a gift, he loves it. He wants more knives like this one in the future. Thank you.
Bought this for a gift for my son well made for the money
Nice better than expected, locking blade, sharp, I like that it has a pocket clip although the clip is a little flimsy, good price for the quality of knife
I really enjoy this knife. Not a quick opener but rugged. I use it on the farm daily.
Old timer done a great job on this hawkbill!! I have had cheap knifes and this isnt one of them.I like everything about this knife from the pocket clip to the strudyness of it.Great solid knife!! And because it had the pocket clip I bought it instead of the case knife that I was going to buy before I saw this with the pocket clip so I bought it and saved money and could not be happier.
This is a quality classic style knife. It has a modern liner lock which is very nice! Also has a pocket clip that is quite handy. Sharp enough out of the box.
This hawkbill blade is really handy for opening packages. Seems safer than a standard shape blade! Good for gardening tasks. Really high quality & solid for a cheap price! Did use a small metal file on a couple sharp corners...now it’s smooth as a baby’s bottom.
I needed a tool for my garden and back yard work .Didn’t want to use my expensive edc’c and needed a tuff pruning blade . This is great . However the slip joint type of detent and the position on the blade make the thumb studs useless No one hand opening .Also depending what you use to sharpen they can get in the way .A pair of vice grips and they screw off . There is plenty blade sticking out for a easy open .Also could use a lanyard hole so you can hang it as your working. The monstrosity of a pocket clip however is good to hang a cord off of so that worked . I would buy again . Love the blade shape for garden work
I wanted to love this knife, I really did. It's a Schrade after all. I've owned several Uncle Henry and Old Timer Schrade knives over the decades (I'm over 70, myself) and they have all been quality pieces. This has been a "piece" alright, but it sure isn't quality. The blade steel is OK. On one hand, it doesn't keep an edge very long, but on the other hand, it's easy to sharpen. It looks good, and the slabs and the liners match well with no sharp edges. My biggest gripe is the pivot. When I got it, it was impossible to open one-handed. It was almost impossible to open with both hands. You could see (and feel) that the end of the spine (the tang), where it pivoted past the the liner spring was extremely rough. What I did was, I wrapped the blade with tape, and then opened and closed the blade back and forth for thousands of times (yes, thousands!). At one time, the heat in the joint was over 100º, just from the friction of my moving the blade. Eventually, I got the blade workable, but it's still a bit rough. What should have been done when building this knife, was a final buff where the pieces slide past each other. But that's a step in a quality blade build, and Schrader used to be a quality blade. Not any more, I guess. This will probably be my last Schrader knife, and after so many years, that makes me sad.
